The problem that innovation answers
Reduced self-reliance and difficulty in integrating people with intellectual disabilities requiring assistance into the community. People with intellectual disabilities cannot use websites dedicated to culture because those are not adapted to their cognitive abilities. As a result they are not able find out about cultural events.
How does innovation work?
This online platform is designed for adults with Down syndrome. It enables them to socialise and participate (assisted by volunteers) in cultural events that are adapted to their needs and abilities. Thanks to a simple interface, the use of graphic and audio elements people with intellectual disabilities are provided with clear and easily comprehensible information. The platform is a source of knowledge and information on how to spend time together, and a tool to facilitate contact between adults with Down syndrome and their helper. Thus, adults with Down syndrome can forge and strengthen friendships with people outside the institutions and care facilities. It also teaches them how to use social media safely. The entire platform's activities are coordinated by a trained supervisor who takes care of the safety of the users in the digital space and ensures physical safety during joint outings.
