Railway stations are not adapted to the needs of visually impaired people. As a result, only small number of blind and visually impaired people choose to travel by train. The inability to travel comfortably often leads to visually impaired people being professionally inactive.

The innovation delivers a solution to help blind people move around railway stations independently. It provides specially prepared files for the blind with audio descriptions of access routes and video files to help visually impaired people navigate those routes. The set for each train station will include: instructions on how to use the audio and video guides, general plan of the train station and various files helping to get to specific points, e.g. from platform one to platform two, from the station entrance to platform three, etc. The number of routes depends on the number of platforms available at the station. The first files were created in cooperation with visually impaired people who were familiar with spaces the guides were developed for. The guides were then evaluated by experts, corrected according to their guidelines and tested again, this time by blind and visually impaired people unfamiliar with the train stations. The guides were created according to the guidelines developed by the Polish Association of the Blind. They can be played using any mobile device, such as a smartphone or tablet.

After the trial, one set of audio and video guides was produced with descriptions of specific routes for stations Szczecin-Główny and Bydgoszcz-Główna respectively. In addition, an instructional video and an audio file describing how to use the guides was prepared for each station. There were also 2 video files and 2 audio files with a general description of each station.
