About innovation

The nature of innovation
Produkt
The problem that innovation answers
Finding a job poses a much greater challenge for the deaf than it does for hearing people. Iit is difficult for them to improve their professional qualifications, comply with complicated procedures and regulations. The barrier when communicating verbally or in writing with the 'hearing community' is very much present. It is even more difficult for deaf women to balance motherhood and work as they often experience discrimination due to their gender. The ‘glass ceiling' phenomenon, lower wages. This results in deaf women having often low self-esteem, lacking confidence in their abilities and having anxiety about taking up a job.
How does innovation work?
As part of the project, training sessions were held for more than 40 workers of the Regional Labor Offices in Kraków and Katowice on how to attend to deaf people. In addition, a video with sign language interpretor explaining how the labor office works, was made. A survey was launched to examine the problems and needs deaf women face when dealing with labor office and looking for a job. Those activities were intended to improve the communication between deaf people and Regional Labor Offices and to familiarise their workers with the specifics of communicating with deaf people. Additionally, the website (www.gluchamamapracuje.pl) was created, which is not online any more, where deaf women could find key information on employment rights in Polish Sign Language.
