About innovation

The nature of innovation

The problem that innovation answers
Education, involving apprenticeships and internships, does not prepare students of secondary and vocational schools for entering the workforce. Internships do not meet the needs and expectations of students. The employers are often unable to provide interns with access to positions and tasks where they can gain the necessary experience and skills. A single enterprise cannot ensure a satisfactory internship program (to convey practical knowledge about the profession and the industry) to familiarise the intern with various tasks and positions while providing the necessary training and supervision without incurring large organizational costs.
How does innovation work?
The Cluster for Practical Education is a new model for designing internships to place the students in multiple enterprises in various positions, using an online platform to connect employers and students. Employers fill in a form about positions they can offer to interns and they specify the skills and responsibilities required (they also give the locations and dates). In turn, students can design their internship by combining several internship offers which would provide them with the knowledge and experience they need and expect. On the one hand, the students can learn about one particular industry and profession, acquire the necessary skill set, without the risk of being stuck in an unwanted position for the entire internship. On the other hand, the employers have the opportunity to optimally share the organizational costs of taking on interns as each enterprise offers internships in positions which are most convenient for and desired from their point of view. As a result, the students, after completing the entire internship in several enterprises, end up with plenty of experience. This solutions is beneficial long-term for both, the students and the employers, as it results in future workers having a more extensive skill set. The innovation is primarily intended for employers and enterprises from one particular industry who are members of a guild, trade association, producer group, etc. The key tool is the internet platform where employers post their offers and students design their internships.
