Resources invested in helping people with intellectual disabilities are too low to significantly impact their civic engagement. Until now, there have not been any initiatives aimed at enabling people with intellectual disabilities to exercise their civic rights.

Resources invested in helping people with intellectual disabilities are too low to significantly impact their civic engagement. Until now, there have not been any initiatives aimed at enabling people with intellectual disabilities to exercise their civic rights.
Who is the innovation for?
For all socially disengaged groups, especially the disadvantaged groups, including:
– People with various disabilities;
– Caregivers of people with disabilities and dependants;
– Elderly people;
– Single mothers;
– Long–term unemployed and economically inactive people.
Who can implement the innovation?
The innovation can be implemented by social welfare bodies, support agencies, NGOs, NGO Support Centers (CWOP) and Local Activity Centers (CAL) which employ people with required skills and qualifications or are able to recruit the such professionals.

Results achieved as a result of testing
In the course of the activities, people with disabilities and their caregivers were made aware of the methods and techniques aimed at promoting social participation. They improved their social and civic skills, they identified more strongly with their local community and strengthened the ties with the town they live in. They also increased their creative thinking skills.

What is necessary to implement innovations?
Innovation activities require appropriate space for training, suited to the number of the participants, with multimedia equipment and a smaller room for individual consultations. Preferably with Internet access. The participants carry out other activities at their homes and during study visits.
