About innovation

The nature of innovation
Produkt
The problem that innovation answers
Failure to adapt furniture to ergonomic principles, living conditions, individual needs and limitations of residents in nursing homes. There is a lack of furniture dedicated to elderly people living in nursing homes (DPS) on the market, and products designed for this customer group are often expensive. The production of small amounts of furniture may reduce costs, for example by using cheaper materials. The proposed solutions are designed with versatility in mind, making them accessible to different age groups and mobility levels.
How does innovation work?
The design of a storage furniture system that responds to the needs of the recipients such as: easy access to high shelves, handles adapted to motor dysfunctions, configurability of the furniture according to the needs and conditions of the premises. With the existing room furnishings included, adaptations will be designed to improve the functionality of the old furnishings.
Who is the innovation for?
Nursing home residents; older people with limited mobility.
Who can implement the innovation?
Nursing homes; NGOs; furniture designers; manufacturers of furniture and home furnishings.
Products resulting from testing
The design of a furniture set which includes: a hanger, macatas, ladder, pocket, stop, table, lockable cabinet and furniture handle.
Results achieved as a result of testing
Adaptation of the furniture in nursing homes to the needs of the users, both in terms of ergonomics, safety, comfort, as well as aesthetics and personal preferences (to maintain privacy); improve the functioning of seniors in unfamiliar surroundings; increase the accessibility of public spaces; improvement of living conditions in the nursing centre; improvement of residents' quality of life and well-being; increased willingness to build social relationships.
