About innovation

The nature of innovation
Usługa
The problem that innovation answers
Limited physical activity of blind and visually impaired people
How does innovation work?
“Together we can do more” is a model to encourage blind and visually impaired people to do sports. The aim of this app is to interest them in Nordic walking with the assistance of professionally trained guides. As part of the model, we developed a training program for future Nordic walking guides and a program for joint sports activities with visually impaired people.
Who is the innovation for?
Blind and visually impaired people
Who can implement the innovation?
Sports assistants for blind or visually impaired people (adults fond of sports, willing to take action, who have the required knowledge, skills and qualities to take part in physical activities with a blind or visually impaired person) - Institutions and organizations involved in promoting sport-related activities for visually impaired people
Products resulting from testing
A handbook with plans for practical activities, a model harness for a visually impaired person and guide, a Nordic walking technique assessment sheet, and learning materials on Nordic walking, special eduaction and assisted training of athletes, psychological support.
Results achieved as a result of testing
During the trial, a training program for future guides was developed. The guides were trained and then they had training sessions with visually impaired people. The participants got involved in physical activities despite their visual impairment and were able to qualify for and compete in the 2018 Mosina World Championships with their guides. They won a gold, silver and bronze medals in the 5 km walk. Being assisted by the guides Paweł Garncarz and Dariusz Karp, one of the project's participants ran a 50 km ultra marathon, two 84 km marathons and two 42 km half marathons and which earned him the top placement in terms of total distance covered by a person with visual impariment
