The problem that innovation answers
Surveys show that in the opinion of most employers the graduates are well prepared for the job in terms of hard skills, but they point out that students’ interpersonal and social competences are insufficient. These are in high demand on the labor market and essential in medical professions where you need to communicate with patients. However, both the study program and placements in hospitals and clinics, which are often isolated or closed, homogeneous environments, do not offer students the chance to experience professional, social and psychological challenges.
How does innovation work?
By simulating the work environment, the model provides an opportunity for students to train social skills in practice while dealing with specific professional challenges. Tasks that were specially designed by professionals and the use the logic of an 'escape room' game force students to apply, practice and develop competences such as teamwork, creativity, analytical thinking or stress management that are key qualities of a good general practitioner, diagnostician or surgeon. The key objective of the tool is to create realistic conditions and challenges to practise and train skills that are overlooked or undemphasized in the course of study. An important aspect of the game is also the chance to familiarise oneself with the complexity of the profession by solving specific puzzles and professional challenges as a team. The aim of the model is therefore to intensify the practical training of soft skills in medical professions through team-based practical exercises that change the student's attitudes, motivation and self-esteem.
