How does innovation work?
“Reminiscence Theatre” combines theatre and therapeutic activities. This innovation aims to create an environment for people with dementia and Alzheimer's disease where they can make new social contacts. The basis for this action is establishing cooperation between a theatre, cultural institutions and healthcare centers. A psychologist (with the help of somebody familiar with the theatre) works with a group of seniors, using psychodrama techniques and knowledge about the functioning of the elderly and people with dementia. Mini-performances or a stage play are developed based on the participants' stories and memories. These activities are supported by an interdisciplinary therapeutic team consisiting of volunteers, occupational therapists, a tutor, a physical therapist or physiotherapist, music or art therapist and speech therapist.
