Raising and/or working with a child on the autism spectrum can be emotionally draining. Procedures and formal/legal solutions to support the mental health of the parent, caregiver or therapist of a child with ASD have not been introduced.
How does innovation work?
The innovation 'Support for Caregivers of Children on the Autism Spectrum' is a website intended for parents and caregivers of children diagnosed with a developmental disorder on the autism spectrum and the therapists of children with ASD. By visiting the website the users can complete an emotional self-assessment and identify the risk of caregiver burnout (parents) or professional burnout (therapists). After completing the test, they automatically gain access to up-to-date knowledge of how children with ASD function, learn and what kind of support they require. They also receive suggestions on whether they should take specific preventive steps, such as visiting a psychologist. The website also offers a list of reliably checked and verified support institutions which could provide real help to parents whose child has been diagnosed with ASD.
