The problem that innovation answers
The lack of general knowledge on anxiety disorders and accessible educational materials. One in ten Poles suffers from some type of phobia due to excessive anxiety or stress, which often significantly affects their lives. At the same time, there is a lack of general information on anxiety disorders. There are no easy methods to acquire knowledge that would enable patients to better manage their problems associated with anxiety, stress or obsessive thoughts. The behaviour of those around and close to patients is also a problem. Often, without understanding the nature of the illness, they tend to stereotype and criticise the behaviour of the patient, or downplay and disregard the illness itself. All of this has a negative impact on the well-being of patients, especially as they often do not know what is wrong with them and cannot cope with their problems.
How does innovation work?
The innovation consists of a model of an illustrated psychoeducational handbook which should help and inspire future authors publish their own handbooks mental or somatic disorders. The model was based on the experience gathered by the Łódzka Fundacja Psychoterapii while working on a book about anxiety disorders: “Something terrible will happen any minute. First aid for people struggling with OCD and their families”. As part of the innovation trial, a handbook on obsessive-compulsive anxiety disorder and people affected was published. The handbook is also available online. During the implementation of the innovation, we analyzed individual steps and stages of developing and delivering a reliable psychoeducational handbook so that we could keep it scientific, visually appealing and easy to absorb. The step-by-step model presents the lessons learnt during the development of the handbook.
