The problem that innovation answers
The rehabilitation or preventive care for the most common musculoskeletal conditions are insufficient. An increasing number of people are struggling with everyday problems caused by limited mobility which is often a consequence of previous medical procedures or incorrect posture when walking. Issues which are ignored or not reported to a physician in time can lead to reduced mobility or even disability. Private physiotherapy services can be expensive, which leads to many people not receiving the care they need.
How does innovation work?
INNOTEXTIL is the design of smart clothing and an associated app. With sensors, a control system and an app for mobile devices with the Android operating system, the users can monitor and control their body movements and be notified in real time if any deviation from normal walking is detected. The data is collected and presented as a graph. The collected data may also be made available to a physiotherapist who can recommend corrective exercises and thus influence the rehabilitation process.

Results achieved as a result of testing
A prototype of smart clothing that enables people to monitor their body movements daily. The prototype was tested by four people recovering after various orthopaedic procedures or injuries (aged 65-74). The tests showed that seniors were pleased with the innovative clothing as it supports them in activities of daily living and motivates them to stay active. While implementing the innovation, we were able to learn how versatile the design is and that it may be used to meet the needs of other users as well.
