The nature of innovation

The problem that innovation answers
Blind people have a much more limited access to entertainment than sighted people. Board games, which have become very popular recently, are rarely adapted to the needs of blind people and thus cannot be played by them. Blind people are excluded from all kinds of formal and informal team building activities every time a board game is played. In addition, sighted people often cannot imagine the challenges that blind or visually impaired people face everyday.
How does innovation work?
The game ‘The Invisible Expedition’ has been developed to engage both blind and sighted people in one joint game. To meet the needs of the blind players, the game uses tactile elements (inscriptions that can be read by touching them) partly resembling a puzzle. By using the Braille writing system and additional elements, such as blindfolds for sighted people, the game is inclusive and it makes it possible to explore the world with the sense of touch. 'The Invisible Expedition' helps build relationships between people with visual impairments and sighted people. By playing this game the player is challenged to tackle problems that blind people encounter everyday. The goal of the game is to buy a ticket with credits the player had scored previously and get on the bus. By showing sighted people only a fraction of the difficulties blind people are confronted with, the game will help integrate both groups and prevent isolation of visually impaired people.
