How does innovation work?
The first stage of innovation implementation consists of recruiting oncoassistants. This is followed by training and workshops to ensure that the volunteers acquire the necessary qualifications and skills to support oncology patients. The next step is to set up oncoassistant-patient pairs where people diagnosed with cancer can receive help and support.
Who is the innovation for?
Individuals after a cancer diagnosis; early-stage cancer patients; families of patients with a cancer diagnosis; caregivers of people with cancer experience; volunteers, i.e. oncoassistants; hospice personnel.
Who can implement the innovation?
Medical facilities, i.e. hospices, palliative medicine wards; foundations and associations dedicated to caring for the ill; facilities specialising in the support of oncology patients.
Products resulting from testing
Innovation manual; workshop scenarios; description of the innovation.
Results achieved as a result of testing
The innovation significantly contributed to an improvement in psychological wellbeing among ill people, who began to see the disease as a potential turning point, contributing to a positive transformation of their lives, and this change improved their wellbeing. Positive results after the implementation of the innovation are also noticed among the group of oncoassistants.
