The social innovation seeks to address the problems of accessibility, education and coordination of dental care for people with intellectual disabilities.
How does innovation work?
As part of the innovation, an adaptation procedure has been created to prepare students to visit the dentist at school. A student visiting the dentist's office uses a suitably equipped dental station and obtains an initial diagnosis. At the next stage, the person with a disability is informed about the condition and prepared for the procedures that will be followed in specific medical units.
Who is the innovation for?
The innovation serves students with intellectual disabilities and other dysfunctions and/or chronic diseases.
Who can implement the innovation?
Special education teachers; school counsellors; school support personnel; nurses; childcare workers in educational and childcare institutions; parents and caregivers of persons with intellectual disabilities; employees and caregivers in care and social assistance institutions; students of medical schools in the medical and dental faculty; dentists.
Products resulting from testing
The resultant products of the innovation testing are the workshop scenarios and the model manual.
Results achieved as a result of testing
The acquisition of new skills in the area of technology an increase in self-confidence; stimulation of the mind through intellectual activity; strengthened social bonds and involvement in community life; openness to access a variety of culture and entertainment; increased motivation to learn and discover new things.
