About innovation

The nature of innovation
Produkt
The problem that innovation answers
Wheelchair users find it difficult to move outdoors in snow or rain. Raincoats, commercially available in Poland, do not take into account the specific needs of wheelchair users. Suitable coats manufactured abroad are unaffordable.
How does innovation work?
Uniodzież is a raincoat design adapted to the needs of wheelchair users. Such coats have not previously been readily available in Poland and when imported they are very expensive. Everyone can sew the coat designed by Joanna Krokosz using the attached sewing patterns on their own or ask a tailor to do it. The design of the raincoat allows for the two-part jacket with an attached leg cape to be independently put on by a person in a wheelchair. Additionally, the design aesthetics follow contemporary trends in outdoor clothing. Uniodzież follows the idea of universal design by taking into account the needs of different recipients, not only those of wheelchair users, but also those of caregivers of people with disabilities and cyclists.
Who is the innovation for?
Disabled wheelchair users.
Who can implement the innovation?
– Any person using the raincoat sewing instructions – Sewing services and tailors – Medical and rehabilitation equipment shops, clothing stores – Institutions supporting people with disabilities
Products resulting from testing
– A prototype of the raincoat – A description of the innovation model – A raincoat design and sewing instructions, including blanks and list of necessary supplies – A raincoat test report – Promotional video of the innovation
Results achieved as a result of testing
A prototype of a low-cost and affordable solution was developed to increase the mobility of wheelchair users in public spaces. The testers were able to move around in adverse weather conditions more comfortably.
